From Yahoo! News:Officials Probe North Dakota Pelican Deaths
Presumably the first question to be answered is, "There are pelicans in North Dakota?"

From Yahoo! News:London-style Attack Not Expected in US
I should point out that it wasn't expected in London, either.
So glad my country is making the world safe from terrorism with our stupid wars.
I hardly know what to say about the London thing. It totally sucks, and I feel for the folks affected--my company has a division there, and my own personal boss (whom I'd be loathe to lose, if you can believe that) is there today too. Luckily, the worst problem for people I know there seems to be that they were more or less unable to get to work. Very lucky, in an unlucky situation.
Given that this is likely just the second (see Spain) in what will, over time, be a horrible series of reprisals against any country that's friendly to the US, I'm pretty depressed about it. Bush and his neocon pals will be thrilled, of course--the more this happens, the more borders will close up around the world, keeping the poor and repressed (potential refugees) where they belong, under the heels of their oppressors. Soon only the rich or connected or corporate-backed will be able to move freely, if we're not careful, and if we don't put a stop to the crackpots. Our misadventure in Iraq may just push us to an as-yet-unheard-of form of global fascism* from which we may never recover.*A hallmark of fascism is the creation of an underclass that can be, and is, freely and institutionally discriminated against, and from which there is no escape. Gives the middle class someone to shit on, and also to fear reprisal from, dontcha know. Middle class fear is so very useful to the hands pulling the levers, the ones that are rich and powerful, and that want only more, more, more while granting everyone else less and less. If borders are closed to refugees out of fear of terrorism, and I fear the middle classes will clamor for it (or be told by Fascist Bush and Pals that they should), the underclass will be established world-wide.
